Hi David, I realize that you are probably inundated with emails re bats and I know your website covers most things but the bat I have in the bedroom is lying on the floor just behind the french windows and I thought at first it was dead but when I gently poked it with a broom it's mouth opened and it kind of snared at me. It has been in the same position now for three days and
hasn't moved even after poking it. It is a little brown bat and I know it came in through the chimney in the bedroom. I have had this happen three times in the the last three weeks. Do you think it is dying or that is is just sleeping. I don't believe it wakes up at night as it really is in an identical position to what it has been for three days. I am in Southern Spain and I cannot find anyone to advise me about bats. We don't appear to have any kind of bat association here and I am not even sure if they are a protected species in

My response: Is it currently cold outside in Kansas City? The bat could be in a state of torpor, which is a kind of hibernation. If you don't want it in the house, wrap it up in a towel and toss it outside. Of course, it sounds like you've got a colony of them living in the attic or walls. That must be addressed at some point.
