Wildlife Education - Information and Advice for the Safe Removal of Bats from Attics

Lincoln Bat Removal

Not all wildlife removal companies are the same. Some have experience with bat removal projects, and are familiar with the proper methods for bat exclusion. But others use incorrect techniques, such as bat traps, summer exclusions, or worse, fumigants. Do your research before you hire someone!

I personally recommend THIS SPACE AVAILABLE for bat control in Lincoln. I have communicated with this company for many years, and they abide by these bat removal principles:

- Always perform a proper live exclusion.
- Never use poisons or fumigants or kill bats.
- Never use traps or attempt to relocate bats.
- Never do a removal during the maternity season.
- Seal all entry points shut with guarantee.
- Offer attic cleanup and decontamination.
- Properly Nebraska licensed and insured.

As I discuss repeatedly on this website, bat removal projects are not easy, and not for amateurs. I have seen many horrible attempts at bat colony removal throughout the years, done both by do-it-yourself homeowners and by incompetent companies. Never hire a Lincoln pest control company that uses poisons for rodent or insect control. They often attempt the same approach for bats. Not only is this incredibly destructive and illegal in Nebraska, but it results in disaster for the homeowner, and does not actually solve the problem. It's very important that the removal of bats from the attic of your home is done in the correct manner, and there is only one correct way, with a live bat exclusion. To read more about this process, read my bats in the attic home page.

Before you hire anyone, including THIS SPACE AVAILABLE, talk to them, and make sure that they understand what they are doing, and that they have experience. Be sure that they do abide by the principles I outlined above. This is not just for the sake of the bats - I'm no tree hugger - it's for the sake of doing the job correctly, for you and your property. The fact that it's good for the bats as well is a lucky coincidence. And really, bats are good animals, which I'm sure you realize. I hope you have a good experience with your Lincoln bat control project, and with THIS SPACE AVAILABLE. You can email me personally if you have any problems with this company, and I will talk to them, but I doubt that will be necessary. Good luck!

Over the last 5 years I have caught about 7 bats in my house. I cannot catch this one. I do not know where they are coming in because my roof is in good shape and I do not have an attic. I think they are living in the house and I see them only periodically. How do I catch them if there is a colony inside? I read your info about bats in the attic and you make perfect sense. Would you recommend ORKIN for our area? We live in the Lincoln NE. area and have used ORKIN for a bee problem and they resolved it. There was no recommendation for bat removal on your site for our area. Your input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, your website is very informative and I do not want to take a chance on a quick fix that would not resolve our problem. We do not have a large infestation that I know of and just became aware of a problem in the last week. We have a 1 and1/2 story home and the access is limited through a crawl space from our upstairs ceiling. What do you recommend?

Just read your article on bats. I have recently found bats in the attic of my shop. Since I've just found them there I know to now check the attic of my house. At the present guess you would call this the inspection stage. I know where they are entering which is my 2 gable vents on the shop. Was wondering if you had a pic or a diagram of the exclusion net to give me an idea of what I need to fabricate for this process. Thanks for your help, Skip
